The Fellowship of Brothers (FOB) is a, voluntary attendance based, veteran peer-to-peer support and advocacy group. The FOB is comprised of service members who volunteered and/or served in the U.S. military after the terrorist attacks on September 11th 2001. The FOB is all-inclusive, regardless of: branch of service, duty station, component (active/guard/reserve), deployments, combat experience, discharge status, sex, race, or any other discriminatory factors.
The FOB meets every Monday at the Santa Barbara Veterans Memorial Building (112 W. Cabrillo Blvd, Santa Barbara, CA 93101) from 1830-1930 hours. The FOB’s mission is to: check in with one another, offer support, provide advocacy, share resources, facilitate camaraderie via team-building exercises and special events, and to be present and available for each other. We are providing a community, a safe place, a refuge, where veterans can socialize and depend on each other in a safe and comfortable setting. We do this because we know that it is ingrained in the veteran’s psyche to help one another, to be responsible for each other, and to never leave a fallen comrade.
The FOB recognizes that no one is more well equipped than other veterans how to support their fellow brothers and sisters in arms with their transition, reintegration, and assimilation to civilian culture and society. FOB membership IS voluntary and its members show up of their own free will to provide and receive peer support. The FOB is NOT: A federally, state, or locally recognized/sanctioned counseling service for mental/physical health (PTSD/TBI), substance abuse, legal services, or financial concerns. Neither the FOB membership nor its leadership are licensed or qualified to offer these professional services. Further, we are not beholden to any outside agency or entity to provide information of any kind re: FOB members. We DO adhere to a strict policy of confidentiality in relationship to FOB membership, meetings, communications, and events. We DO value duty, service, good citizenry, and support any/all (member related) court mandates. However, it is the individual member’s personal responsibility to conduct themselves with honor and integrity, as a representation of the group, in both FOB sanctioned events and within the community.
The FOB provides re-connection with a “tribe” of like-minded individuals offering veteran-to-veteran peer support because we are invested in the well being and general welfare of American veterans. We offer this service in an effort to better serve our veterans and our community. Our philosophy is, the world is run by those who show up. Our message to veterans is, you are not alone. Our mission is, to show up for one another. We are stronger together, and, at The Fellowship of Brothers, WE SHOW UP.
